Product Description:

  • Micardis belongs to a group of medicines called angiotensin II inhibitors.
  • Angiotensin II is a substance produced in the body that causes blood vessels to constrict and thus blood pressure to rise.
  • Micardis blocks the effect of angiotensin II so that blood vessels dilate and blood pressure drops.
  • Micardis is used to treat high blood pressure in adults, also known as essential hypertension .
  • "Essential" means that the high blood pressure is not caused by other conditions.
  • If high blood pressure is not treated, it can damage the blood vessels in several organs, which can sometimes lead to a heart attack , heart or kidney failure, stroke or blindness.
  • High blood pressure usually causes no symptoms until the damage occurs.
  • It is therefore important to measure your blood pressure regularly to check that it is within the normal range.
  • Micardis is also used to reduce cardiovascular disease (ie heart attack or stroke) in adults who are at risk because they have reduced or blocked blood supply to the heart or legs, or have had a stroke or have high-risk diabetes.
  • Your doctor can tell you if you are at risk of such events.

How To Use:

  • Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.
  • Contact a doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

The recommended dose is 1 tablet daily.

  • Try to take the tablet at the same time each day.
  • You can take Micardis with or without food.
  • The tablets are swallowed with water or another non-alcoholic drink.
  • It is important that you take Micardis every day, until the doctor decides otherwise.
  • If you think that the effect of Micardis is too strong or too weak, you should talk to your doctor or pharmacist about this.
  • The usual dose of Micardis to treat high blood pressure in most patients is one 40 mg tablet once a day to control blood pressure for 24 hours.
  • However, the doctor may recommend a lower dose of 20 mg or a higher dose of 80 mg.
  • Micardis can also be used in combination with diuretics (water tablets) such as hydrochlorothiazide, which has been shown to have a stronger blood pressure-lowering effect together with Micardis.
  • To reduce cardiovascular disease, the usual dose of Micardis is one 80 mg tablet once a day.
  • Blood pressure should be measured frequently at the beginning of preventive treatment with Micardis 80 mg.
  • If your liver is not working as it should, the dose should not normally exceed 40 mg once a day.

If you take too much Micardis:

  • Contact your doctor, pharmacist or hospital immediately if you have accidentally taken too many tablets.

If you have forgotten to take Micardis:

  • If you have forgotten to take a dose, you do not need to worry. Take it as soon as you remember on the same day.
  • If you have forgotten to take the tablet one day, you continue as usual the next day.
